BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Battle Creek Police Department (BCPD) has announced the eighth annual Trunk-or-Treat event, albeit with social distancing measures in place.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event as been re-imagined as a drive-thru event. It will take place at Bailey Park (1392 Capital Ave. NE.), with drivers entering to the south on Wagner Drive, going north and through the parking lot to collect candy, and exiting on Eaton Street.
The event is free and open to the public, and will take place from 5 – 7 p.m. on Friday, October 30.
City officials say families will stay in their cars during the event. Law enforcement vehicles will be set up around the parking lot and use sections of PVC pipe to slide candy into each child’s bag. Staff will be wearing masks and gloves and will sanitize the pipes as needed.
Anyone interested in supporting the event can donate to the Battle Creek Police Department Law Enforcement Community Project Fund, a fund of the Battle Creek Community Foundation.
Checks can be made out to BCCF/PDLAW and mailed to the Battle Creek Community Foundation, 32 W. Michigan Ave., Suite 1, Battle Creek, MI 49017.
Those interested also can donate on the Communication Foundation’s website.
Meanwhile, the county’s COVID-19 pandemic response created a video to share the federal and state Halloween recommendations. That video can be viewed at this link.
